I want to consume less and create more...

It made my day when I got an email from photographer Clay Enos that said simply: I dig your mantra.

I'm Travis Jon Allison. I'm a photographer from Southern Ontario, Canada and making art has always been my passion. Getting to be a photographer was one of my goals since I first borrowed my mom's Pentax Spotmatic camera and took it with me to camp for the weekend.

I thank you and my clients who have allowed me to share that passion and keep creating. It makes me very happy.

This blog is all part of my creating bug. I use it to keep a record of what's going on with me so that my clients can get to know me better and so my friends and family can keep up with what is going on in our world. One part photo album, one part journal and all me. Thanks for reading!

I hope you enjoy the blog. Please add me into your  feed reader.

Vivian Maier – Why Photography is Amazing – Part: 1,000,000

Vivian Maier was a Chicago nanny who was obsessed with street photography. Around the time of her death a Chicago real estate agent bought some boxes of her negatives and unprocessed films and discovered the most wonderful thing. Vivian was BRILLIANT.

This is such a great story.

John Maloof, the man who found the films has posted a KickStarter project to get some help to get a documentary made of Vivian’s photos. You can support it here (even $10 would help).

LensHero – Picking a Good Camera Lens

The one question that I get most from my clients?

What lens should I buy for my new DSLR?

I usually recommend the “nifty-fifty” lens that both Canon and Nikon have to offer.  It is very inexpensive (about $150), great in low-light and takes beautiful portraits.

I was pleased to learn that I now have another advice-option: the new website, LensHero, helps people pick the best lens for what they hope to shoot.  You can indicate whether you would like a zoom lens or prime, what your budget is and what your subject matter will be (portrait, macro, sports, etc).

Give it a try!  I think you’ll find some cool new options.

London Family Portraits: Venn Family

Last month I joined the Venn’s for a London family portrait session. The best possible pictures always come out when family has something fun to do, they relax and forget about me. For this day everyone was celebrating one of the boys birthday’s at Fleetway Bowling and so there were some great pictures that came out of all of the fun.

Not one of the best pictures in the bunch but I thought it was really cool that the laser light happened to highlight the bowling ball.

Recognize these folks? The first time they appeared in this blog was from their Muskoka family portrait session.

Hannah & Her Family II

If you are a long-time blog reader (thank you to those who are!) then you will remember that I shot Hannah when she was just a couple of weeks old. It is an honour, as a photographer, when you get asked to keep shooting for a family and can build a great long-term portfolio, especially of a new born.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you: Hannah Six Months Later: 24-10-10_NelsonFamily3-51.jpg 24-10-10_NelsonFamily3-55.jpg 24-10-10_NelsonFamily3-70.jpg 24-10-10_NelsonFamily3-86.jpg 24-10-10_NelsonFamily3-145.jpg 24-10-10_NelsonFamily3-189.jpg 24-10-10_NelsonFamily3-226.jpg 24-10-10_NelsonFamily3-271.jpg 24-10-10_NelsonFamily3-283.jpg 24-10-10_NelsonFamily3-295.jpg 24-10-10_NelsonFamily3-311.jpg 24-10-10_NelsonFamily3-351.jpg 24-10-10_NelsonFamily3-374.jpg 24-10-10_NelsonFamily3-392.jpg 24-10-10_NelsonFamily3-470.jpg 24-10-10_NelsonFamily3-480.jpg 24-10-10_NelsonFamily3-485.jpg
