I want to consume less and create more...

It made my day when I got an email from photographer Clay Enos that said simply: I dig your mantra.

I'm Travis Jon Allison. I'm a photographer from Southern Ontario, Canada and making art has always been my passion. Getting to be a photographer was one of my goals since I first borrowed my mom's Pentax Spotmatic camera and took it with me to camp for the weekend.

I thank you and my clients who have allowed me to share that passion and keep creating. It makes me very happy.

This blog is all part of my creating bug. I use it to keep a record of what's going on with me so that my clients can get to know me better and so my friends and family can keep up with what is going on in our world. One part photo album, one part journal and all me. Thanks for reading!

I hope you enjoy the blog. Please add me into your  feed reader.

Song of the Day: Christmas Is All Around - Billy Mack (played by Bill Nighy)

I feel it in my fingers,
I feel it in my toes,
Christmas is all around me,
and so the feeling grows

Every once in a while Love Actually just sneaks up on you.

Good graffiti makes cities bearable.

Wrap your head around this awesome stop action video made with graffiti. Every frame this (between 15 & 30 frames a second) was shot and then put together for the video. (give it some time to download)

SOD: Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head

Song of the Day: Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head - B.J. Thomas

Raindrops keep falling on my head
But that doesn’t mean my eyes will soon be turning red.
Crying’s not for me, cause
I’m never gonna stop the rain by complaining
Because I’m free
Nothing’s worrying me

Andrea’s Party of Four

What a great day to take pictures! My second shoot on Sunday was for grad photos - what Americans call Senior Portraits. What I call a Party of X.

Winners of a Subtlevox Portrait Session

I’ve known Andrea (2nd from the left) for most of her life. She was a camper of ours and now is about to become a second year counsellor at CAIRN in Baysville. She was one of the lucky winners of a free graduation portrait session. You can see the presentation that these young women put together to win these pictures [click here].

Family Portraits with Amy, Michael, Nicholas and Luke

I have known Amy since we met at Innerkip Presbyterian Church when we were 4 years old. I had an awesome time shooting with her and Michael and their family this past Sunday in High Park in Toronto.

It was a funny moment when Amy said to Nicholas “Do you know that Mommy and Travis met when we were your age?”. Michael reminded us that the next thing I did after we met was that I asked my new friend to marry me. She is, also, one of only two people in the world whom I can stand calling me Trav.

Thanks for such a great day Aim & Michael! It was very fun to play with you folks.

Nicholas LOVES the movie Cars. It was hard to pick only one to shoot.

Do you feel like someone might turn out to be a performer like his dad?

Creativity Counts in this Contest

The Leaders to this Point are Ron with 19 points, Palais with 12 points and Pako with 11.

There have been lots of points awarded for creativity in the short time this game has been played. My favourites: Palais wrote a recommendation on my Flickr profile [click here], Palais & Pako both made a personal recommendation to someone they knew that was getting married, Ron added Subtlevox to his email signature and a bunch of folks added links to the blog in their Facebook Notes and their Facebook Signatures.

Best of luck on this one!

[UPDATE] The correct answer is headstone in a cemetary.

Subtlevox Photography featured in The Big Word Project

I saw The Big Word Project in this months Wired and picked up some words for myself (rewedding, subtle, vox), some for the consulting company that Beth & I are rebranding (zoic, topaz, consultants, maverick) and some for the non-profit agency for which my wife is the Executive Director (camp, camps, cairn).
Who knows if it is worth it but I figure it was a fun try and I’m all about supporting students in a brilliant venture!

SOD: How Deep Is Your Love?

Song of the Day - How Deep Is Your Love - The Bee GeesTheBeeGees-08-big.jpg

I know your eyes in the morning sun

I feel you touch me in the pouring rain

And the moment that you wander far from me

I wanna feel you in my arms again

And you come to me on a summer breeze

Keep me warm in your love and then softly leave

And its me you need to show

Chorus:

How deep is your love

I really need to learn

cause were living in a world of fools

Breaking us down

When they all should let us be

We belong to you and me

Awesome Bee Gees Fans

On a separate note: Check out all of the information at Bee Gees World. If I was the Bee Gees (and their record company) I would be working night and day to make sure these folks are happy and well-fed.

They have even catalogued over 1500 other artists who have covered the Bee Gees.

SOD: Money for Nothing

Song of the Day: Money For Nothing - Dire Straits

I shoulda learned to play the guitar
I shoulda learned to play them drums
Look at that mama, she got it stickin’ in the camera
Man we could have some fun
And he’s up there, what’s that? Hawaiian noises?
Bangin’ on the bongoes like a chimpanzee
That ain’t workin’ that’s the way you do it
Get your money for nothin’ get your chicks for free

Tara & Brad’s Wedding

I had such a great time yesterday at Tara & Brad’s wedding at the Oakwood Resort in Grand Bend. The weather was amazing (considering the forecast was for rain!) and it was so nice for me to get back to Lake Huron.

I have got to figure out a way to wear my kilt to weddings. I’m just worried that I would somehow wreck it.

There were so many cute nieces and nephews!

I must say that the MC’s and the speeches were some of the funniest I’ve heard!

Thank you to Ian & Allison for recommending me.
